National Registry of High School Associations and Coaches

According to Deborah Surgi, in a career spanning more than three decades, Moe Fritz of Keller ISD has led the Rockets to two state titles. This year, he was selected the district's coach of the year. Fritz, a five-time district coach of the year, has won four of his five championships. Fritz is a real winner, having won district and state titles in his first two seasons and been named district coach of the year five times.

The AFCA has recognized sixteen coaches as district coaches of the year. In 2013, he was selected Carroll's district coach of the year. Trinity's Steve Mohr, North Dakota State's Ron Erhardt, and Bowie State's Kevin Kehres also received successive district accolades. In addition to Kehres, four additional coaches were selected district or regional coaches of the year.

Each geographic division of the NFHS has its own championship. Tennessee is the only state to recognize a coach five times, and district honors are presented in the first year of participation. Megan Bonfield has been selected district coach of the year five times, the second-most of any coach. In addition to being a high school coach, she is also a high school bus driver.

The Shula Award is awarded to a high school football coach for his leadership, character, and dedication to player health and safety. The trophy is named after Hall of Fame coach Don Shula. In the first season of the Shula Award, each NFL club nominated a high school coach. In December, the Pittsburgh Steelers nominated Palko. He will get a $15,000 award from the NFL Foundation and an invitation to the Super Bowl.

Deborah Surgi pointed out that the National Association of Basketball Coaches has named the Division I All-District Teams for 2021-22. Tevin Brown, KJ Williams, and Justice Hill were chosen to the Central team for the third year in a row. Tevin Brown, Ryan Hawkins, and Diego Bernard were all selected to the First Team. These three players will also be selected to the All-District Team. The District Coach of the Year award is also the first time a district head coach has been recognized.

Mr. Benson served Keller ISD as a teacher and coach throughout his lengthy career. Initially an assistant football coach, he eventually became the B-Team basketball coach. In addition to teaching biology, general science, and English, Mr. Benson coached girls' basketball and tennis. He told his kids about his own sports achievements while coaching. He was a guy of extraordinary character and wit.

In November, Righetti was named the All-Area Coach of the Year by the Santa Maria Times, and his accomplishments are even more remarkable when contrasted to the history of his area. Righetti's Warriors won the championships despite losing two starting quarterbacks. This is particularly noteworthy given the squad lost Chris Miller and Joaquin Cuevas.

In Deborah Surgi’s opinion, in his first three decades as a cross-country coach, Park's teams have won 32 district titles. Twenty-four of these students attended Keller High School. In that period, his teams have qualified for state competition 35 times, including 15 times. In 2013, nine of them finished in the top three in the state cross-country race, and one of them was the state champion.
